EAST LONDON PHOTO STORIES

Tuesday, 11 December 2018

Hoxton Mini Press are five years old! To mark the occasion they've published East London Photo Stories, a compilation of work from their first series. I really enjoyed writing the text for it! Here's a gallery on the Guardian website with some of my words and a selection of images.

I had the great pleasure of running a workshop alongside photographer Jack Latham at the Photographers's Gallery as part of the DEVELOP programme, which aims to give young people the skills and info to embark on a career in photography. They run lots of great events. More info here. Jack led a morning session on narrative photography and I focused on creating text for photo books.

Lots to see at this year's PHotoESPAÑA, which I wrote about for the British Journal of Photography.

CONTRIBUTING EDITOR FOR THE RPS JOURNAL

I've written features for the  Royal Photographic Society Journal for a few years but now I'm also overseeing the 'In Focus' section of the magazine, covering photography news, books, exhibitions, and other short picture-led stories and interviews. Give me a shout if you have anything that might be relevant... rachelsegalhamilton@yahoo.com NB: I work two months in advance for each issue.

BOTANICAL INTRO

Thursday, 29 March 2018

"Greenhouses are contained, controlled, perfect little worlds of their own, imune to the wind, the frost, the pests. But like Eden these enclosed and manufactured spaces bristle with nature..." From my intro for Botanical, a beautiful new photobook by Samuel Zeller, published by Hoxton Mini Press.

UNSEEN LONDON

Monday, 30 October 2017

I wrote this book featuring brilliant contemporary photography projects that each reveal a different side to the capital. It's available to buy on the Hoxton Mini Press website and the launch party is on Wednesday - everyone welcome!

More about the book...

London is one of the world’s most photographed cities, so you might think there’s nothing left to see. But you’d be wrong. Through the eyes of 25 contemporary photographers you can venture along hidden canals, around notorious housing estates, through surreal street scenes and deep underground. This is London as it is today, and as you’ve never seen it before.

This illuminating book compiles the work of 25 world-class photographers:

Thom and Beth Atkinson, James O Jenkins, Rut Blees Luxemburg, David Vintiner, Matt Stuart, Janie Airey, Vicky Grout, Ben West, Effie Paleologou, Stephen Leslie, Dougie Wallace, Anton Rodriguez, Simon Norfolk, Mark Sanders, George Georgiou, Andy Sewell, Lorenzo Vitturi, Carl Bigmore, Giacomo Brunelli, Cian Oba-Smith, Johanna Neurath, Lewis Bush, Shahed Saleem and Nick Turpin.
